Dwayne Wade

If anyone caught any of the Pistons/Heat game last night, you will have noticed that Dwayne Wade played only 25 minutes due to foul trouble and still was the difference in the game. Totally unstoppable, he either scores or makes the great pass (as he did to Mourning late in the game). Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) we are going to have to recognize that he may be the best player in the league. It will hurt the hearts of many purists that a guy 6'4" may be the best in a league where a small forward can be 6'9" but Wade truly is remarkable. Not only is he unstoppable offensively, he has dedicated himself to becoming better as a stopper and already is a top defensive player. Talk about a true all round player!! Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, MJ - look out - we have found the next great one.

The French Open

Well, we're at that famous time of year when we ready ourselves for the French Open. I'd love to hear from you as to who you pick to win.

I'm really hoping that Federer can get by Nadal and I think he may - not by beating Nadal, but by having someone else beat him. Nadal has proven to be the best on clay but I question whether he can go 2 weeks against clay courters and continue winning. It's the mental aspect of his game that needs answers. Not that he is weak mentally, it's just an aspect of his game which requires further consideration.

On the women's side, rumour has it that there won't be a winner this year. Okay, so maybe I lie.

I like Clijsters, if she is healthy, and Mauresmo plays well in Paris. While I hate to admit it. Hardenne has to be a favourite but I'll be rooting against her forever. Look out for Petrova and, of course, Sharapova, but, PLEASE, tell me who and why you think someone will win the Open. And if you think Hingis will win it, I've got some land in Mexico which I can sell you.

Baseball, basketball and the Ottawa Senators

The baseball season is approaching June and the American League East is already shaping up as a three team affair. The Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays are creating separation from the rest and I believe that will be the way the balance of the season will go. The Blue Jays need to hang in there until A.J. Burnett gets back in June and it's looking like they have the horses to do just that. Even with a sub par performance last night by Roy Halliday, the jays won another series with the Angels and as long as they keep on winning series, they will figure in the race in September.

This is a big weekend with the Yankees facing the Mets and the Red Sox playing Philadelphia. The Blue Jays may fly into June in first place if they take care of Colorado. They have great balance, have dealt with injuries and may have the best depth of any of the top teams in the A.L. Troy Glaus got hit in Los Angeles but appears to be ok, and so far, their every day players have played without serious injury. That may be the key. To date they are as good as advertised with Janssen providing a great spark by pitching well, and beyond expectation.

Look out for the Pistons tonight. While they trail the series with Cleveland, I still suspect they can win the series but tonight's game is the series. They must force a seventh game back in Detroit and must figure out how to stop Lebron from imposing his will on this series. He is, without doubt, the newest and greatest, capable of taking this team of Cavs on his shoulders. The Heat must be licking their chops seeing that Detroit is vulnerable

I think Dallas could have won out west, but without Jason Terry, I don't like their chances winning in Dallas and game 7 at the Alamo will be a fight they are bound to lose. I also think Phoenix is in big trouble even though they get to play at home. Their interior defence isn't there and Steve Nash is OOG (Out of Gas) Look for the Clips to move on.

But one thing for sure - the basketball playoffs have been far more entertaining than the NHL playoffs, even though seeing Ottawa and their civil servant fan base choke on their egos was worth the Leafs flunking out

Euroleague Finals

I caught the final game between Maccabi Tel Aviv and CKSA yesterday. It's great that this tournament is being covered in North America where a one game, winner take all championship game would be unheard of, lost in the aroma of advertisers revenue.

My heart was with Maccabi Tel Aviv, but they played a poor game and really didn't have the guard play needed to get the ball to Anthony Parker or Maceo Baston in scoring positions. Will Solomon is/was their best guard yesterday, but his playmaking skills are minimal, and as a result, Parker never got going.

CKSA, on the other hand shot the ball extremely well, and got far better guard play, in a tournament where inside play does not dominate. Trajan Langdon gets the most press here in North America, but I didn't think he was the difference. Vanterpool was terrific, making many 3 pointers at critical times where Maccabi had no answer in defending him. He was the best player on the court yesterday.

All in all, I love the one game championship.
