NCAA basketball

It's always amazing to me how many upsets the college basketball tournament suffers. Not that I should be surprised.

Kansas looked bad throughout large stretches of the year, and Uconn was also very inconsistent. Syracuse sat in that zone throughout the game with Vermont without regard to the fact that T.J Sorrentine was bombing them at will. Over the years, Boeheim has shown a tendency to stay in that damn zone even when it's not working and this time it cost them a victory. I think it also hurts Hakim Warrick's draft stature, having lost to a team like Vermont.

I really thought that Illinois would lose early but with all the upsets, they are looking good, but not as good as North Carolina. The best team in college basketball are the Tar Heels and while they can be beaten, the bracket is theirs for the taking. Kansas fans will be crying in their beer if Roy Williams hoists the championship banner.

The Fan590

Golly darn the Fan 590, Toronto's sports Talk Show. This morning Landry and Stellick were humiliated by Raptor coach Sam Mitchell for asking the stupidest questions without doing any of the homework you would expect a professional broadcaster to do. After the interview, the show spent the rest of the day mocking Mitchell like a child in the playground. Gord Stellick was a stiff as a GM in pro sports and was basically kicked out of the NHL while Landry is a punk who pretends to know something about sports. They are both hockey pucks who deserve to be unemployed, and if I were in charge of that station, they would be delivering coffee tomorrow morning.

March Madness

I wait all year for the NCAA tournament, and this is the week it all begins.

I love that Washington received a #1 seed. They had a terrific year and if you haven't seen Nate Robinson play, you'vre missed the most exciting player in America. I think they can go a long way in this tournament, particularly because they begin only a long car ride from their campus.

I still believe that Illinois will be through earlier than expected, particularly if they continue to get poor guard play. Dee Brown may be player of the year in the Big 10 but he has been atrocious for the last couple of weeks. If he can't shoot straight, the Illini may be lucky to win 2 rounds.

I'm a big UCLA fan, and am very pleased that they have made it back to the dance after a couple of very poor years. Ben Howland has done the job that he was hired to do and they have a winnable game against Texas Tech in the first round. But, the Bruins are up and down, so don't expect too much this year. They are a center and "go to guy" away from being contenders. If Trevor Ariza had stayed ...........................WOW!.

Enjoy the fun. It's the best 3 weeks in sports.

March Madness

The time is coming. March Madness is almost upon us and yesterday Illinois, Kentucky Kansas and Duke lost. North Carolina was life and death to beat Duke and Syracuse looked like also rans against UCONN saturday. Look out for the Huskies. They have the strength up front to win it all if they can get some good guard play. But all NCAA champions have great guards or get great guard play and that may be their downfall. Syracuse doesn't have enough up front, nor are they quick enough to run the table. I like North Carolina a lot, and don't forget about Duke. If they can spring JJ and Ewing, their big guys can get it done. And remember, you heard it here first. Illinois will not make the Final Four!
